The MEC for COGTA, Zolile Williams has learned with shock about the untimely passing away of Councillor Vuyani “Blaza” Mnana of Walter Sisulu Municipality on 23 October 2022. Cllr Mnana succumbed to natural causes.
The MEC wishes to convey his words of condolences to the family, relatives, friends, and fellow fighters of Councillor Mnana as well as the people of Aliwal North. At the time of his passing, Cllr. Mnana was serving as the Proportional Representative (PR) councillor for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the municipal council. He was serving as the Chief Whip of the EFF Walter Sisulu Local Municipality.
He was elected as the Proportional Representative (PR) councillor of the EFF after the 1 November 2021 Local Government Elections. He was serving in the Rules and Ethics Committee (Section 80 Committee) of the Council. He served as the Chief Whip of the EFF until his untimely passing.
Cllr. Mnana was born and bred in Aliwal North on 7 July 1978 and did his primary education in Vulamazibuko and completed his secondary education in eGqili Secondary School.
Within the community of Maletswai, he was a well-known community activist who participated in programmes that were aimed at uplifting people such as educational programmes, Man’s Forum for initiation (Ezolwaluko), local political activities,
He was a diligent volunteer who assisted students with registration processes at Ikhala TVET College and helped them until they achieved success. He took up student’s educational challenges as though they were his. He was a community development-oriented person.
On the political front, he was a member of the Regional Command Team (RCT) of the EFF inthe Joe Gqabi Region. Before that he was an activist of Cosas in High school.
He was humble and soft spoken person. He was fond of laughing and grounded in terms of life skills. He got along well with everyone. He was a diehard supporter of Orlando Pirates FC.
The MEC wishes to convey his heartfelt condolences to the Mnana family, his relatives, friends, the EFF in Joe Gqabi Region, his colleagues in the Municipal Council and the people of Maletswai.
