COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha will host a media briefing for the 2020 Customary Male Initiation Summer season, next week. The season which took place under strict Covid 19 regulations, officially started on 17 December 2020.

Given the persistent man made challenges facing the initiation custom in the Province of the Eastern Cape, the MEC wishes to give reflection to the public and key stakeholders on the impact of the work done, lessons learnt as well as provide guidance on the preparations for the winter season.

“The Covid 19 requirements put all of us under pressure to practice ulwaluko under different and difficult conditions to mitigate risks and save lives. We used our Provincial Risk Adjusted Strategy which was a product of a wide ranging consultation process as our guide to action,” said MEC Nqatha.
