The Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Hon. Xolile Nqatha has learnt with great sadness and sorrow the passing of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality Mayor Hon. Bambezakhe Goya.  He passed away last night (Tuesday 12 January 2021) in hospital after a short illness. 

Goya joined Ingquza Hill Local Municipality as Ward Councillor of Ward 17 in 2006. In 2011 he was re- elected as a Proportional Representative (PR) Councillor at Ingquza Hill Local Municipality and acted as a Mayor in 2012 for a period of 3 months. In 2016 he was re – elected again as a PR Councillor and served as Member of Mayoral Committee for Engineering Services.  He was elected as Mayor of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality in January 2018 till his death.

Goya served the people of Ingquza Hill with humility and diligence. He was instrumental in the developmental agenda of his people and Ingquza Hill Local Municipality.   Hon. Nqatha has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of mayor Goya.

 ” As the provincial government we send our deepest condolences to the Goya family, his fellow councillors, local government stakeholders and the entire staff of Ingquza Hill Local municipality.”  said MEC Nqatha.
