South Africa marks 22 years since it embarked on the 16 Days of activism Campaign of no Violence Against Women and Children. This is an annual campaign led by the United Nations from 25 November to 10 December. This year’s theme is, Women’s Economic Justice for a Non-Violent and Non Sexist South Africa.
In line with the national campaign, Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha and the Mayor of Ntabankulu Local Municipality Councillor Tsileng Sobuthongo will participate in a 3km Walk to highlight the campaign against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). The walk will commence at 07:00 AM from Ncalane Stop to the Ntabankulu town. The walk is part of the event to officially launch the Ntabankulu Multipurpose Centre.
“As we continue to grapple with the Covid 19 pandemic, we must with same vigour also attend to the scourge of GBVF which continues to inflict excessive pain and suffering to the vulnerable in our societies on a daily basis. Through this walk, we call upon all organs of people’s power to stand up and be counted to stem the ever increasing tide of GBVF in our midst,” said MEC Nqatha.
Councillor Sobuthongo said the newly built Centre boasts of state of the art ablution facilities, offices, indoor combo court, kitchen, swimming pool, gymnasium area, gallery hall, showers, parking rea and fencing all around.
“The Centre will benefit 24 397 households in our municipal area including the surrounding areas. For this reason, we encourage our young people to take pride in the facilities by guarding against vandalism of any kind. This is their property that they must protect at all times,” said Councillor Sobuthongo.
