COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha in conjunction with the Chairperson of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL) Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana, will host a media launch to reflect on the state of readiness for the winter traditional initiation season. The media launch will also witness various key stakeholders making commitments of support during the winter initiation season.
The launch will be attended by various key stakeholders including the members of the Alfred Nzo District and Metro Initiation Forums, officials from the Departments of Health, Social Development, Education, the South African Police Services (SAPS), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
“The launch will officially mark the opening of the winter traditional initiation season 2019 throughout the Province. Our traditional leaders, District and Metro Initiation Forums are entrusted to monitor and oversee the initiation programme in their areas of jurisdiction in line with the Customary Male Initiation Practice Act. We also invite other key government stakeholders to join hands to prevent deaths and injuries during this period,” said MEC Nqatha.
