COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha will deliver a key note address at an award ceremony of a programme tailor made to empower traditional leaders in the Eastern Cape Province. MEC Nqatha said this is an academic qualification that would ensure that the institution of Traditional Leadership in the Province is recognized and transformed for the development of traditional communities.

He said the year-long R1,4 million course, pitched at NQF Level 5, was undertaken by the University of Fort Hare (UFH). Nineteen (19) traditional leaders have successfully completed the programme and met the requirements as laid down by the university.

“This is the 1st programme of this kind to be successfully designed, executed and completed by Traditional Leaders in Eastern Cape,” explained MEC.

The programme was offered in six block sessions at the UFH campus in Bhisho covering modules such as History, Heritage and Ethics of Traditional Leadership, etc.

The award ceremony will be attended by the Vice Chancellor and rector of UFH Professor Sakhela Buhlungu, the Chairperson of the EC House of Traditional Leaders, Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana, amongst other invited guests. The event will be held as follows:
